Gain Confidence and Boost Self Esteem in 5 Simple Steps

We all want to become more confident and feel good about ourselves so we can live our very best life. Here are some ways to gain confidence and raise self-esteem:

1. Do something that requires a decision and a follow-through.

Have you been putting off writing that letter to aunt Martha? Is there a friend youve been meaning to call? Wash the car, tidy the garden or clean the house. Youll gain confidence by setting goals (even small ones) and following through on them.

2. Enjoy something you do well.

Do you have any hobbies or sports that you enjoy playing? Some things like going swimming, painting or writing can hold your attention and get you into a state of flow. While you are in the flow you forget about everything else.

Afterwards, youll feel competent and capable. Its a great way to boost your self-esteem. If you dont have any particular hobbies or pastimes that you enjoy make an effort to try something youve always wanted to try.

Picture yourself doing it, and then give it a try! It doesnt have to be something big - it can be as simple as joining a walking club.

Youll find that you are more centered and happier if you do something that puts you in that flow at least once a week.

3. Shift the focus.

Its been shown that low self-esteem develops hand-in-hand with individuals who put too much focus on themselves. You can gain confidence by doing something that focuses on someone else or even something else.

Youll find that when you are in a situation where you are meeting new people, you immediately become less nervous when you focus on the person you are meeting.

At the end of the day, youve interacted with others and will notice that you feel much lighter.

4. Relax, already!

Learning to become more relaxed is a great life enhancer. People who are more relaxed have fewer problems with their memories and are more likely to take the bumps in the road of life in stride.

The practice of meditation has gained popularity for this reason. You might want to look into Tai Chi, which involves physical relaxation techniques.

Whatever method you decide on, take relaxation seriously. The benefits are just too great to ignore. If youve never considered relaxation important, think of it this way: if you can attend to something that results in feeling good, how can you not gain confidence in your personal abilities?

5. Make a list of everything youve ever accomplished.

Think small. An accomplishment is an accomplishment! Some things you could put on your list: passed my drivers test and got my license, scored a goal when I played hockey, managed to save enough money to go on a trip and so on.

These are just a few ideas you can use to gain confidence and boost your self-esteem. Use these ideas as a base point and add these things permanently in your life.

Keep in mind, people are not born with good self-esteem, most of us have to work at it. It develops from your thinking and the things you do daily to make yourself feel good.

Keeping Cool in Arizona

If you plan to move to Arizona, there are a couple of items you need to know first. If you have yet to buy a home in Arizona, then be sure to look for the following things: central air conditioner and swimming pool. DO NOT SETTLE FOR A SWAMP COOLER. If you have bought a home in Arizona that is in either of the largely populated valleys, you must not assume that because people live there it can't be that bad. It is that bad without the proper equipment. If you are moving to Arizona from a dissimilar climate, you must prepare to pay extra for you cooling. It is absolutely not survivable for a person from a cooler climate without central cooling and lots of it. Swamp coolers may do in some environments, but in Arizona they will just add a layer of humidity on top of the unbearably hot temperature. This is like two-ply toilet paper, there are some things you just don't even cut corners on.

The swimming pool is essential as well. In cooler climates like Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, or even San Diego, a pool is an extra, a luxury, a want. In Arizona, it is a requirement. On some days during the Arizona summers, it gets so hot that you feel incapable of cooling down with Air Conditioning, a freezing cold drink of water, or even a cold shower (cold showers really don't exist in Arizona's summers). The only way you are getting cool is by jumping in a swimming pool. Sound silly to people who never lived in Arizona before, but those who have, are nodding and saying "of course, why did he write an article on this?"

Brain Training - Ever Done It?

We all know about the benefits of training. To get better at anything we need to train. There's weight training, basketball training, football training, net-ball training, hockey training, cross training - training for everything.

At some stage all of us have trained in something. Many of us jog, pump weights, perform aerobic exercises, walk and do all sorts of things to train the muscles of the body to become bigger, stronger, fitter and more capable for a chosen sport or pursuit.

We all know about the value of exercising our bodies. But how many of us train our brains? Hmm. Brain training. Interesting. "What's that?" I hear you ask.

Let me start by saying that your mind manifests what comes to pass in your life. Put simply - we are what we dwell upon most of the time. You have probably heard such famous sayings as:

"As a man thinketh so is he" and "What the mind can conceive and believe the body will achieve" and "Whether you think you can or whether you think you cannot, either way you are right". It's a very complex thing this organ we call our brain.

So, back to the subject at hand - how do you train your brain? You can't take it for a walk. It cannot pump weights. You can't take a pill or a potion to make yourself instantly smarter. What can you do?

First, understand this - your brain is THE most powerful muscle in your body. Unfortunately, for most, it is also the most neglected muscle in the body.

Your brain directs everything that you do - physical, mental and spiritual. You want to walk - the brain makes this possible. You want to talk - the brain makes that possible too. You want to engage in sport - the brain synchronizes all the muscles to allow you to do so. You want to do a crossword puzzle - the brain caters for that too. It also allows multiple actions. For example your brain makes it easy for you to walk, swing your arms, hum a tune and chew gum all at the same time. The brain is indeed all-powerful.

Training the brain requires thinking about your life and being determined to make the necessary changes to make things better for yourself. I prefer to think of the brain as a super computer. If you are not achieving the results that you want you always have the option of "re-programming" your "on-board computer."

If you want to re-program your brain you will need the correct software for the task. Like a regular computer it would be pointless to expect a word processing program to perform a particular mathematical function. For that you would need a spreadsheet program. Your brain is the same. When you know how to do this you will be amazed at how easy and powerful it is. Let me give you some examples:

Let's say you want more discipline in your life - enter the discipline disk. You want more success? Easy - enter the success disk. What about your weight? Have you ever wanted to reduce your weight? Most people have. Plug in the weight disk. Whatever area of your life needs improvement you can re-program your brain to do it.
